Arthur's Story
After high school I joined the Navy and came to San Diego, California. I immediately decided to make the Navy my career. I managed to complete five tours in Viet Nam during the war with only one injury. Whenever, I wasn't at sea or deployed I attended college and channeled my energy to obtaining a college degree. It was extremely tough trying to attend school and serving aboard ship at the same time, but shore duty was coming soon. Once that happened I knew I would be on my way. I was determined and hit the books, made excellent grades and finally got a shore assignment. I made the very best of that time and pushed hard receiving academic recognition and two scholarships for academic excellence and achievement.
I was rather fortunate in my educational prowess in that I attended all private institutions except one. I received a BS from LaVerne Univer...Expand for more
sity; I was awarded a scholarship to National University and completed an MA there; I then attended San Diego State University completing an MS and finally attended LaSalle University and completed my Doctorate Degree.
My last assignment was in Washington, D.C. where I was handpicked to assume the Navy's newly created position of Coordinator of all Enlisted Leadership Training and Professional Development, as a member of the Flag Allowance to the Chief of Naval Operations Staff. I retired in September 1986 completing twenty-three years.
After my Navy career I went to work for the San Diego Community College District and achieved the rank of full professor. I served twenty-five years and upon my retirement was awarded the distinctive rank of Professor Emeritus. That's about all I can impart at the moment; just a little something, something!
